Sally Kravich - an advisor on internal and external welfare - can tell how healthy you are by looking into your eyes, literally.

"The eyes are the windows to the soul," according to Kravich, a nutritionist who uses Iridology - an examination of the iris - to see what ails the body and mind, Kravich's client list reads like a Who's Who. And while she won't name names, we'll say that her roster includes a recent Academy-award-winning actress, based in New York, as well as some hot Hollywood blondes.

HB: How does Iridology work?

SK: Iridology is a science that studies the patterns of the iris and sclera (whites) of the eyes. Although aspects of reading eyes have been utilized for thousands of years, Iridology itself was not fully mapped out until the mid to late 1800's. It was developed by two forerunners in the field, a Hungarian physician named Ignatz Von Peczely and a Swedish homeopath named Nils Lilquist. My mentor was the man who brought Iridology up to date, Dr. Bernard Jensen.

Iridology reads like a map. A competent Iridology reading can reveal nutritional needs, strength or weakness of tissues, toxins, inflammation, and the activity of various organs. For instance if dark spots show up around the lymph and breast area, I might recommend a mammogram.

HB: Who is more stressed out? East Coast or West Coast

SK: The East Coast works at a faster pace than the West Coast, so there seems to be a higher level of stress, and therefore, nutrients that support higher energy as well as adrenal support are needed. Many of my East Coast clients need extra B12, B complex, and perhaps Eleuthero (Siberian Ginseng). Often my East Coast clients will need extra seaweed products, which help to cleanse and protect against toxins, more so than on the West Coast. Californians have a greater variety and easier access to farm-fresh organic foods. However, New York is catching up.

HB: How about men versus women: Are guys too macho for health consultation?

SK: Two-thirds of my clients are women and a third are men. Since men tend to think of themselves in invincible terms, I see fewer men in their 20's. They usually start coming in to see me in their 30's and 40's, starting with physical support, stress, and energy levels. As they get older, the concerns move toward prostate support, brain support, sleep, and handling stress.

HB: You see a lot of actors. What is their main complaint?

SK: The most complicated issues for actors are what to do when traveling and how to maneuver around Kraft Services! I load them up on nutrients to replace what they might be missing in their diet…and to address their various situations. Of course there will be lots of brain and energy support, as well as how to get the most out of a good night's sleep.

HB: Summer's here, and on both coasts that means more time outside. Sally, what's the deal for sun worshipers?

SK: We need some sunlight and vitamin D to help support our structural systems! However, with a depleted ozone layer, we also need more (SPF) protection than ever. The skin is the largest organ of the body, so if you smoke and eat a lot of preservatives, beware! The interaction can create more skin cancer.

We need to use SPF products and a lot more veggies and certain seaweeds as protectors. I am a huge promoter of drinking veggie juice; it helps to promote healing and build healthy cells.
