January & February 2010 Newsletter
For many, the holidays are a free pass to let loose and give way to indulgences. Although letting loose is good for the head and heart, the after effects can lower our resilience.
Now that the New Year is upon us, we recommit to being and becoming our best selves. Some like to jump right into a new plan, and others need to gently recover from the holidays. Here are some tips for rejuvenating, and setting the foundation for healthy habits.
Cheers to the New Year 2010 and your good health!

Sally’s Quick Cleansing Tips:
1. Eliminate any white sugar, white flour products, candy, chocolate, desserts, as well as alcohol (also concentrated sugar). Sweet treats lower the immune system and cause inflammation, the building blocks of disease.
2. Increase alkalizing foods, the body’s repairers. Make a batch of Sally’s veggie healing soup and have that daily.
3. Increase antioxidants, found in dark berries.
4. Add extra probiotics to counteract the holiday indulgences and provide the body with healthy bacteria.
5. Drink more water.
Sally’s Healing Soup # 2
1 Bunch Celery
2 Bunches Parsley
4 Carrots
2 Leeks
6-8 Zucchini
1 Yam or 1 cup Butternut Squash
Optional: Can add 3-4 leaves of Escarole or Collard Greens or Kale
This recipe makes a HUGE batch of soup. You can freeze some.
You may add any other veggies you want. Use spices and sea salt according to your taste. Pre-chop all the veggies. Get out a big cooking pot. Over medium flame, stir fry or sauté the celery and leek. After they have become translucent, add in the chopped parsley. Next, add in the hard veggies: carrots, parsnip and potatoes. After they have softened add in the sliced zucchini. The mixture will become a thick stew. Add 1 gallon of water and Rapunzel bouillon cubes or 1 quart of water and a box of organic chicken or vegetable broth. Simmer uncovered for 45 minutes. This makes enough soup for a few days with extra for freezing.
